Instructions
Set up a 15x15 yard square using cones for the boundaries.
Place small gates (using cones or poles, about 1-2 yards wide) on opposite sides of the square.
Divide players into pairs; one starts as the attacker with the ball inside the square, the other as the defender.
The attacker tries to dribble or pass the ball through the opposite gate to score.
The defender applies immediate pressure to regain possession.
If the defender wins the ball, they instantly pass or dribble through either end gate to score, and roles switch immediately, the original attacker becomes the defender.
Play continuously for set time periods or until a certain number of transitions, then rotate pairs.
Coach feeds new balls if needed to maintain flow.
Focus Points
Encourage attackers to be positive and creative in 1v1 situations, use feints, changes of direction, and acceleration to beat the defender.
Defenders must apply quick, controlled pressure, close space fast without over-committing, stay side-on, and force the attacker away from the target gate.
Stress protecting the ball with good body position when under pressure and sharp first touch to maintain possession.
Highlight fast reactions in transitions, when possession is lost, switch mindset instantly to defend; when won, attack immediately.
Promote high intensity, bravery in tackles, and constant work rate, keep the tempo high with minimal stoppages.
Scan constantly, attackers to spot the gate and defender's position, defenders to anticipate the next move.
Praise effort in recovery runs and staying disciplined in defensive shape.
Progressions
Limit the attacker to 3-4 touches maximum to force quicker decisions and sharper execution.
Add a 10-15 second time limit for the attacker to score before roles auto-switch.
Introduce a second gate on each opposite side to encourage scanning and directional changes.
Make it directional, only score through one specific gate to emphasize angles and patience.
Progress to 2v2 inside the square for added complexity in support and covering.
For easier version, widen the gates or increase the square size slightly.
Add a scoring system (e.g., first to 5 points wins) to boost competitiveness.
Four Corner Model
Technical / Tactical
Defensive stance and jockeying, pressing angles and body position, tackling technique, intercepting passes, ball control under pressure, 1v1 attacking moves and creativity, quick transitions.
Psychological
Concentration and focus, patience in waiting for the right moment, anticipation of opponent's moves, resilience after losing possession, bravery in challenges.
Physical
Agility and quick changes of direction, acceleration and speed over short distances, strength in shielding and duels, endurance for repeated high-intensity efforts.
Social
Communication during pressure and recovery, respect for opponents in intense duels, cooperation in maintaining intensity and work rate.
