Session 3: Playing Forward & Through

Possession, Passing, Defending, Pressing, Transition Youth Development Phase, Senior Phase 10–15 Players 30x20

Added January 2026

Two teams set up in possession, with one defending team. The defending team sends two players to press the ball and two players to screen passing lanes. The possession teams aim to play forward and break lines by passing through the press. If the defending team wins the ball, they immediately pass to the waiting team and all teams rotate roles.
Emphasise pressing angles and body shape when defending Encourage scanning and awareness before receiving the ball Focus on weight, timing, and accuracy of forward passes Reinforce quick support movement to create passing lines Promote fast transition after regaining possession
Limit possession teams to two touches to increase speed of play and decision-making under pressure. Allow the defending team to send an extra presser or reduce the space to further challenge passing accuracy and movement.
