Session 2: Numbers Game
Principles of Play
In Possession:
Penetration
Creativity
Movement
Players are split into two teams and each player is assigned a number. Both teams line up on opposite sides of the pitch. When the coach calls a number, the corresponding players enter the pitch and compete to score on the opponent’s goal. The coach can call multiple numbers to create 2v2 or 3v3 scenarios. Play stops after a goal or a set time limit, then players reset.
• Encourage positive first touch and attacking intent
• Reinforce quick decision-making and awareness
• Focus on shooting technique and composure
• Promote teamwork and communication in overload situations
• Praise competitiveness, effort, and reaction speed
