Session 10: Defend the Cone

Passing Youth Development Phase 15+ Players 30x30

Added January 2026

Three defenders work inside a circle to protect a cone placed in the center. Outside players circulate the ball around the circle, moving it quickly to create passing angles and attempt to strike the cone. Defenders must work together to block passing lanes, intercept the ball, and prevent the cone from being hit. Rotate defenders regularly to maintain intensity.
Encourage defenders to maintain compact positioning Reinforce anticipation and timing of interceptions Promote clear communication between defenders Focus on quick, accurate passing from the outside players Praise intensity, teamwork, and defensive discipline
Limit the outside players to one or two touches to increase passing tempo and test defensive reactions. Add an extra defender or reduce the size of the circle to increase pressure and decision-making speed.
